Florida State cruised through the Tallahassee regional winning their three games by 29 runs. Florida suffered a scare against UCONN, but persevered and eliminated Georgia Tech in dominant fashion.
Now Florida State will travel to Gainesville to play the No. 1 overall seed Florida Gators in a 3-game series to decide which team will go to the College World Series in Omaha. Florida State is 0-3 against the Gators this season, and have lost the last five meetings between the two teams in Gainesville by an average 5.8 runs. None of the last four meetings in Gainesville have been decided by less than 6 runs.
The Gators are 50-13 on the season, while the Seminoles are 40-20. The Gainesville Super Regional will be paired with the winner of the Super Regional featuring the Raleigh and Baton Rouge regional champions in the first game of the College World Series.
Florida State will likely throw Drew Carlton (7-3, 4.36 ERA) in Game 1, Tyler Holton (3-3, 2.92 ERA) in Game 2, and Cole Sands (6-6, 4.21 ERA) in Game 3 if necessary.
