South Florida Team Is Loaded

One of the best teams in South Florida this year is Class 5A Miami Edison. Edison is looking to make another run in the playoffs with the goal of a state title. College recruiters also are keeping a close eye on Edison. Click here for all the details and see where Florida State fits into the mix.

Yesterday, Head Coach Corey Bell spoke with the Insiders and he told us that the Edison football team top goal is to make it to the state championship.

"We want a ring this year and that is the goal of our entire football team," he said. "Our game against Killian High School in the opener will show what our team is made of."

Some of the players on Coach Bell's football team that we met up with today at Edison were Jerrel Guyton, Jackie Claude, Chris Chambers and Richard Clebert. Here is what some of Edison top players had to say about the upcoming season and the top teams on each of their recruiting lists.

One of those players that's underrated is linebacker Jerrel Guyton. He has not received any offers at this time but Florida, Rutgers, Michigan State, LSU and NC State have shown the most interest so far.

"The Gators are my favorite team and that is where I hope to end up. They have shown a lot of interest in me and if Coach Zook offers me the Gators will be tough to beat."

Another top player is offensive lineman Jackie Claude. By the end of the season, there may not be a more highly recruited offensive lineman in South Florida. There were rumors that the 6-foot-4 and 300 pound lineman committed to Ohio State but when we sat down with him today here is what he had to say.

"Ohio State is my top school but I have not committed to them," Claude said. "They have been recruiting me the hardest and that has impressed me a lot. Florida State is another school I like a lot and Coach Steele is someone that has changed my mind about Florida State. They are my second favorite team behind Ohio State."

Florida, NC State and Miami are the other schools that are in Claude top five.

On the verge of committing is center Richard Clebert.

"If Miami offers they will be tough to beat," he said. "That is where I want to go to school. They have always been one of my favorite schools and I hope to get offered real soon." The canes are defiantly the team to beat for Clebert services.

We caught up with linebacker Brouce Mompremier and he has changed his top five once again.

"FSU, NC State, LSU, Michigan State and Florida are the top five schools on my list right now," he said. "The Seminoles were my favorite team growing up and they have sent me a lot of letters lately. Coach Steele is defiantly a coach I could see myself playing for."

Jackie Chambers and Jermelle Harris are two other players from Edison that have drawn a lot of interest from division 1A schools. They have not received scholarship offers but that could change with solid senior seasons.

On a side note junior cornerback Chris Chancellor has the Florida State as his leader. They have always been his favorite team and the Noles will be tough to beat for one of the best cornerbacks in the state of Florida for 2005.
