Charles Kelly is entering his third year as Florida State's defensive coordinator, but there were many that questioned if he would be on staff after his second season. Kelly turned the Seminoles defense around after a subpar showing in 2015, and had them inside the Top-10 of the S&P+ defensive rankings at the end of the year.
That prompted Auburn, Kelly's alma mater, to come after him for their defensive coordinator position. Kelly turned down a large pay increase to stay in Tallahassee, and the University rewarded him for his loyalty.
Kelly's salary will jump to $833,000 this season from $583,000, which will bump up to $858,000 during the 2017-2018 season and then up to $883,000 for the remainder of his contract which ends in 2021.
Florida State's other assistant coaches also received raises.
Tight Ends Coach Tim Brewster
Wide Receivers Coach/Co-Offensive Coordinator Lawrence Dawsey
Running Backs Coach Jay Graham
Defensive Tackles Coach Odell Haggins
Defensive Ends Coach Brad Lawing
Linebackers Coach Bill Miller

All assistant contracts other than Charles Kelly's run through January 31, 2019.
