Miami DB Is High On The Noles

Miami (Fla.) Northwestern cornerback Trevor Ford's stock is on the rise. His name wasn't thrown around by recruiting fans as much as it should have been. However, after wowing coaches during the spring evaluation period and by having a stellar performance at the Miami team football camp, he's now a household name. Heavyweights Miami and Florida State have offered him a scholarship. Click here for all the details.

At the Miami football camp, the 6-foot-1 and 187 pound Ford went up against some of the countries finest receivers. In fact, he was matched up against The No. 1 ranked wide receiver Early Doucet.

"I did pretty well at the Miami camp," Ford, who runs a 4.35 40-yard dash time, said. "Early Doucete and I were going back and forth. He's one of those big, fast powerful receivers. I used my size and speed to defend him. I normally defend guys by playing press defense."

The Miami Northwestern high school senior has as over a dozen scholarship offers. However, Miami and Florida State are the two schools that have the best shot to land his services.

"Miami and Florida Sate are my top two," he said. "I like both of them."

Earlier, in the year, the Canes looked to be the team to beat. However, after a great unofficial visit this past weekend with Florida State, the Noles could have inched ahead.

"This past weekend, I went to Tallahassee to watch the FSU scrimmage," he said. "I really liked it a lot there. I liked the competition."

Ford also got a chance to meet all the Seminole coaches and he got to hang out with two former Northwestern teammates in Clifton Dickson and Darrell Baker.

"I got to meet all the coaches," Ford said. "Coach Steele was real nice. He showed the weight room and everything. I hung out with Clifton and my god-brother Darrel Baker, who is running track for Florida State. We went out and ate."

Even with an outstanding visit, Ford isn't ready to make a commitment yet.

"I'm going to go through the recruiting process," he said. "This fall I'm going to the Florida/Miami and Florida State/Miami game."
