History On FSU's Side With Top-5 Ranking

Florida State was ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP Poll, and their history says that's a good sign for Seminole fans.

Florida State will start the season as the No. 4 team in the AP Poll. The Seminoles have been ranked in the Top-5 of the AP Poll 15 times, all since 1988, with the latest coming in 2014. The data shows that when the Seminoles are in the Top-5 of the preseason AP rankings, they deserve to be there.

Here is how they have started and finished in each of those years with the national championship seasons in bold.

In the 15 years that Florida State started inside the Top-5 of the AP Poll, they finished inside the Top-5 13 times. The Seminoles have won two of their three national championships from a Top-5 ranking with 2013 being the outlier. They started at No. 12 in the AP Poll that season. They have finished with one loss or less in eight of the fifteen seasons.

So if history is an indication for what is to come heading into the season, Florida State fans will have a lot to look forward to in 2016.
