The scrimmage lasted two hours as the Seminoles worked against a scout team that simulated North Carolina. Wide receiver Willie Reid was the offense's top performer with six catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Chris Rix led all passers, going 11-of-17 for 118 yards and a TD.

"I thought Willie Reid was the star which was good to see," said head coach Bobby Bowden.

"He caught some great passes and made some good runs. I thought Chris threw the ball real well, especially on the goalline. That shows what you can do when you get protection. We haven't had protection in two weeks like we did tonight. I was really pleased with it tonight."

Reid scored on a 17-yard pass from Rix and a 44-yard pass from No. 2 quarterback Fabian Walker. Rix added a one-yard touchdown run while fullback B.J. Dean scored the scrimmage's fourth touchdown from three yards out.

Lorenzo Booker (3-27 yards) and Ryan Reynolds (3-18 yards) were the top two rushers. Craphonso Thorpe (3-16 yards), P.K. Sam (2-16 yards) and Donnie Carter (1-21 yards) followed Reid in the receiving column. Walker finished 6-of-9 for 110 yards with one TD and an interception.

The defense got interceptions from Pat Watkins, B.J. Ward, Leroy Smith and Gerard Ross. Chauncey Davis recorded a pair of sacks and A.J. Nicholson had a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Brodrick Bunkley added a sack and a tackle for loss.

The team held a brief kicking scrimmage Friday morning. Placekicker Xavier Beitia went 7-for-10 on field goal attempts, going 3-for-3 from 28 yards, 3-for-3 from 33 yards, 1-for-3 from 38 yards and 0-for-1 from 42 yards.

In other news, senior tailback Greg Jones was one of 39 players named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list Friday. Jones is one of four ACC backs listed, joining Virginia's Wali Lundy, NC State's T.A. McLendon and Maryland's Bruce Perry.

The Seminoles will conclude two-a-day practices with a short kicking scrimmage followed by conditioning Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Florida State opens the 2003 season at North Carolina on August 30th. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 8:00 p.m. and will be televised live by ABC.
