Roberts Moving Forward

Del Roberts was raised on Florida State football. He grew up a fan of FSU and always had hoped to get an opportunity to make the short journey from Godby High School to nearby Doak Campbell Stadium. While that dream remains in question, Roberts still has plenty of options.

Roberts, Godby's career-leader in receptions and receiving yards, is visiting Toledo this weekend.

Roberts, a 5-8, 175-pounder who also returned kicks for the Cougars and is known for his quickness (4.46 40) and big-play ability, has received scholarship offers from North Carolina, Michigan State, Syracuse, Iowa and Louisville. He is scheduled to visit Iowa next weekend.

Roberts, who has said UNC tops his list at the moment, admits his chance of attending childhood-favorite FSU is a long shot, especially after the Seminoles recently received a commitment from Michigan receiver Carl Grimes.

Like Roberts, Grimes also is an exceptional athlete built in the same mode at 5-9, 175.

"I think if they (Seminoles) really wanted me bad enough they would have offered me on the spot," Roberts said.

Roberts, who also runs track at Godby and is yes-sir, no-sir polite, wants to enjoy the remainder of the recruiting process as well as his senior year.

"A couple of us (seniors) were just telling the underclassmen to work hard and enjoy it, because your time here (high school) really goes by quickly," Roberts said.
