State Championship Review

The high school state football championships were held at Florida Field last week, ending with Miami Carol City's exicting victory over Orlando Edgewater. While linebacker Willie Williams turned in a monster game for the winners, there were a number of standout performances during the three-day competition. Click here for an update.

Hollywood Chaminade vs Madison County

I have seen Chaminade now play at least four times this year and its not surprising they handle MC so easily. When they went up to Daytona Mainland and beat them on their own field that should have been a sign of how good of a team they really are. As for the game, John Dunlap is probably the Lions best prospect. He makes plays as a receiver and linebacker. Octavious Darby did not do anything worth nothing but I still feel he is one of the better TE in the country. His work ethic may be the one downside to this kid. Overall he is a very good prospect.

If running back Alex Broomfield had one more gear he would be a top rated back in the state. He is a tough insider runner that can get you 7-10 yard runs consistently. I was told West Virginia is his leader and that would be a great fit. CB Stevie Williams is a another player that should get a D1 offer he has very good speed and could make an impact on special teams.

I did not see Madison County's Jonathan Warren him make many plays but from what someone that saw most of the game told me he looked pretty good.

Naples vs Daytona Mainland

The best player on the field and one of the top prospects in the state next year is No. 90 DE Spencer Atkins. This kid looks like Reinard Wilson at defensive end. He has the same stance as Wilson did and does he come off the football. His speed and quickness to the football is very impressive. He is a top 5-10 player in the state of Florida next year. SS Jon May for Naples also looks like a player to watch out for. Naples does not have much size but they are very fast to the football.

For Mainland their top prospect is DT Matt Lewis. He is 6'2 250 pounds and has the frame to add more weight with out losing his speed and quickness. He will most likely be a top 50 player in the state next year. Sunshine Preps told me about him and Lewis was a nice looking prospect. One player that really stood out to me was RB Vince Wilson. He is a very versatile player that can play many positions. Even with a bum ankle he made so nice runs. He is one of the better looking running backs out of florida this year.

Mosignor Pace and Jacksonville Bolles

The top prospects in my opinion at Pace are JJ Milbrook, Dorrin Lamb, Vlaude Fausten and Conridge Collins. Milbrook now has the record for longest punt return and reception for tds in the state finals. Milbrook went over 90 yards on a punt and a reception which was the game winner. He also had a interception that was key as well. He is a very good prospect. Lamb made practically every tackle and if he didnt Fausten did. Both are solid prospects as well. Collins will be a fullback in College and is one of the top prospects on most recruiting lists next year. I need to see more of him. Safety Lavon Ponder did not have a great game.

Pahokee vs Union County

UC will be a team to look out for next year. Their top players are JR FB Jeremy Brown and SO RB CJ Spiller. Everytime Brown got the ball on a FB Dive play he went 7-8 yards. He is a very good looking FB prospect. Spiller on the other hand is a real good looking prospect at running back.

For Pahokee running back Antoine Smith looks like a top ten prospect in the state next year. He has a great build and has all the tools to be a star in college at running back. Ath.- Demar Boldin had a nice 58 yard touchdown grab. At 6'1 he has the size to play WR or DB in college. He makes plays and that is what stands out most about him. QB Alphonso Smith is a very nice looking prospect that Pitt Panthers got out of the sunshine state. He has the ability to play RB, WR, CB or S in college. He is a very versatile player that will make an impact for the Panthers. LB/DE Antonio Smith is another solid mid level prospect that played very well in this game. He made most of the plays for the Pahokee defense.

Carol City vs Orlando Edgewater

I dont know what word to describe Willie Williams.

Right now I dont think there is a better prospect in the country. Number 1 overall and WW will be a star in college. He has all the tools. Size, Speed and natural instincts of where the football is at all times. He is a beast on the football field. As for the rest of the team the star for the offense was running back Chris Struthers. He had over 100 yards and ran hard all night long.

Terry Jones also had a nice night running the football. On defense DT Ricky Jean Francois was a unreal in the middle. He constantly gets into the backfield and makes plays. LB Vernon Wilder and Maurice Peterson were very good against the run. CB Gregory Redding should see some offers coming real soon with the way he played in the playoffs. S Kenny Phillips is one of the top safety prospect for sure. He has great range and can he hit.

Aaron Jones and Kenny Ingram both had solid games for Edgewater.

Jones was constantly double teamed and was able to get into the backfield and get to the ball carrier. Ingram had a much better game against CC than when he played against Deerfield Beach. I like him at WR. OT Matthew Hardrick struggled at times but will be one of the top 25 juniors next year.

Overall I saw some great football this weekend. There are a lot of very good looking prospect as juniors and soph to look for.
