Soft-spoken and polite, standout offensive lineman Calvin Darity is heading into the stretch run of recruiting with an open mind. Darity, from Tallahassee Lincoln High School, has taken one official visit to Nebraska. His final four stops in January are North Carolina, LSU, Tennessee and Florida State.

Darity returned Saturday from California, where he participated in the CaliFlorida Bowl V all-star football game at Moorpark (Calif.) College near Los Angeles.

Florida rallied from a 16-3 halftime deficit to win 24-22 late Friday night.

Darity, who started at guard but can also play tackle, enjoyed the game despite the rainy ande cold conditions.

A dozen players from the Big Bend area made the all-star team, which was coached by Lincoln High head coach David Wilson.

Florida's defense helped save the day, nabbing five interceptions.

"I thought we came together pretty good," Darity said Sunday.

"Our scheme was pretty basic, some zone blocking, things like that. California's defensive line was very tough, strong and fast. That's what you would expect."

Darity, who is qualified academically and would like to study math or a math-related subject in college, has been quiet about the recruiting process.

However, that doesn't mean he hasn't enjoyed the experience.

"It has been fun getting to meet and talk with different players and coaches from around the country," said Darity, who is yes-sir, no-sir polite.

"In fact, I knew one of the California players from the trip (to Nebraska)."

Darity says he does not have a leader and wants to make his visits before making a decision.

"I am looking at academics, the (football) tradition and where I would fit into the program," Darity said.

"You want to get a feel for the (school) and the people there."

Of course, Darity knows firsthand about FSU. A number of former prep teammates, including Antonio Cromartie and Craphonso Thorpe, have made the short trek across town to FSU.

"It makes it easier in terms of who you can talk to and who you can trust," Darity said.
