In-State Battle Brewing For Miami DB?

J.R. Bryant, a four-star defensive back from Miami (Fla.) Killian, just returned home from his official visit to Florida. Last week, he visited the Florida State Seminoles. The 6-foot-1 and 160 pound standout will wrap things up with an official visit to the hometown Hurricanes. Where does he stand with all the teams on the list?

"It's going to be an in-state battle between Florida, Florida State and Miami," Bryant, who picked off four passes as a senior, said. The Florida visit went fine. We ran into the stadium while they announced our names on the Jumbotron. They also have fans in the stadium. There were about 100 of them cheering us on."

Early in the recruiting process Bryant committed to Miami but has recently backed off of his verbal commitment.

"I wanted to see what's out there," he said. "I'm probably going to make a decision after my Miami visit."

One factor in Bryant's decision will be the friendship that he started with Northwestern's Trevor Ford.

"We really bonded at the Florida/California All-Star game," he said. We're going to go to the same school."

On Wednesday Ford will make his college choice known on Countdown to Signing Day which is aired on Sunshine Sports Network at 6:30 PM.

This morning Miami's Head Coach Larry Coker paid Bryant an in-home visit.

"He told me that I would have a chance to compete for a starting job," Bryant said.

Next week head Coach Bobby Bowden will be in Bryant's home for an-home visit.
