"I played in the middle and had 145 tackles in 10 games," Jon Demps said.
"This coming year, I'm going to move around a little bit, experiement some. I'll play some tight end and I'm gonna try playing some defensive end to see how I adjust."
Demps was recently one of the standout performers at the NIKE Combine at UM.
"I'm hoping to get invited back for the real camp in April," he said after clocking a 4.71/40 on a wet grass. "I did 12 reps at 185 and jumped 31 and a half (inches)." As impressive as Demps was, he said that was only the beginning of what he's capable of.
"We took the drive down and it ended up being 12 hours," he said. "We didn't get there till 3 am the night before and the next morning, the keys got locked in the car. I wasn't ready but I did what I could. I'll be a lot better for the next one."
The talented linebacker, who carries a 2.55 core GPA and will take the SAT in early April, also played basketball this past season. He's been playing football since he was five years old.
Demps, who won't turn 17 years old until late September, has quickly become one of the state's top linebacker prospects.
"I play with a lot of heart and energy," he said. "A lot of guys are blessed with the size and speed but that's not enough for me. I'm full of energy out there and I want to be in on every single play. Whether you try to single me out or not, I'm still gonna come up with big plays."
"It's between LSU and Miami for my leader," he said. "I really like them both. LSU got on me early and Miami's a great program and a place I could see myself at. I like those two, Florida State, Florida, and Virginia Tech but it's still real early." The talented linebacker was asked if he'd rather win a Heisman Trophy or a National Title at the next level.
"A national title, without a doubt," he said quickly. "A Heisman brings personal attention to you. I want something I can celebrate with my teammates. They put in the same amount of time and effort that I do so we need to celebrate together. Plus, we'd be building the foundation for tomorrow's guys." Demps plans to camp at NIKE (April) and LSU (June) this offseason.
"I don't wanna go to too many camps because I want to make sure I'll be with my teammates during the offseason," he said.
