Scouting South Florida

Florida State's goal each recruiting season is to make sure it gets its share of players in the Sunshine State. The Seminoles also are doing a much better job recruiting South Florida, and they have their eyes on a number of quality athletes from that area for 2005. And since nobody knows South Florida better than highly-regarded recruiting analyst Charles Fishbein, this is a MUST READ for recruiting fans. Click here to read the skinny on South Florida's leading players.

QB Jarrett Brown, Palm Beach Lakes.
Kid grew up a big time Nole fan. He is 6'4 215 pounds. He plays basketball as well and is pretty good. He has a real good arm and is tough as nails. FSU is his leader and the stiffest competition will be NC State. Thats where his coach would like to see him play. Also UF, Ohio St and Iowa could be in the mix as well.

WR Antone Smith, Pahokee
Probably the best running back in Floirda this year. Not real big (5'8) but is he fast 4.27 40 at the Miami Nike Camp. He is built like a bull. He is strong in the lower body and can run through tackles. In the Emmit Smith, Travis Henry and Barry Sanders mold of running backs. Has more speed than any of them. FSU chances right now are not as high as you would think but things could and should change. Boldin and Eric Moore should help us out. Miami, UF, NC State, Ohio State, Michigan and Virginia Tech are the teams we will fight with.

RB/FB Conredge Collins, Miami Pace
Collins is a big back and that is what he wants to play in college. He is a kid that likes UM a lot but they want him as a fullback. That may cause him to look elsewhere. The Big ten and possibly FSU will offer him as a big back. FSU may tell him he can be another Greg Jones. He ran for over 1400 yards last year. He is a north/south runner with not a lot of moves. Very effective in the red zone. I could also see him play LB in college. If he decides to play FB he is Miami to lose. The son of former Patriot running back Tony Collins.

FB Adam Coffee, Miami Northwestern
He is strictly a fullback at the next level. Solid prospect but probably not too high on our radar at this moment. That could change.

WR Karrem Williams, Norland High School
He camped at FSU last year and his favorite player is Snoop Minnis. His nickname is Snoop as well. He is related to Andre Johnson and Dwayne Bowe. Has the talent but needs to put it all togehter.

WR Omar Alexander, Northwestern
Alexander is not on the radar yet but at 6'5 he will get some looks. He transffered to NW this past year and should have a breakthrough season. Needs to work on his concentration. He has a tendecny to drop the football. At his size you have to be interested in what he brings to the football field.

OL Chris Barnay, Miami Northwestern
Barnay will be the top OL prospect in South Florida this year. He is HUGE. 6'5 and over 350 pounds. He is strong as can be but needs to get in better conditioning. Is similar to Vernon Carey who went to the same school. Miami leads big right now but he will take his visits. Ohio State, FSU also have a chance as well. My bet is on Miami if NSD was today.

OL Simon Codrington, South Miami
Codrington is similar to Akeem Robinson that was at Carol City this past year. He is 6'5, 260 pounds but has the frame to be close to 300 pounds with some hard work in the weight room. He is a project right now but his upside is real nice. He may have to play Right tackle since his footwork is not great. If he improves that part of his game he is athletic enough to move to the left side. FSU and Kentucky are his two leaders. Not interested in Miami. Grew up in Kentucky.

OG Ronnie Wilson, Ely
Wilson is a kid that when Ely won state may have been the best DT on their team. That was a line that had Brandon Daniels and Terazz McCray on it. He is real strong and runs real well for someone his size. With Andrew Bain, Ty Moss and Cyrim Wimbs on the team he will most likely head to UM.

DE Spencer Atkins, Naples
Atkins may be the best DE in Florida this year. He is not real tall 6'1 1/2 but may is he flat out impressive on the football field. Very similar to former Seminole Reinard Wilson. This kid will whip your a** all game long. He runs like a deer. Explossive first step and gets good leverage. Our staff is on him real hard. FSU, Miami, UF, NC State all have a chance at this kid.

DE Ricky Jean Francois, Carol City
RJ was one of the most impressive DT I saw on film and live last year. He is very strong in the upper body and uses his hands real well. Wrestles when he is not playing football. He is a great high school football player. Where do you play him. If he runs in the 4.5-4.6 range than you have a player. With that type of speed he can also play LB or defensive end. He is one of the top 10 prospects in Florida this year. Miami leads for RJ but FSU should be in the picture in the end.

DE Vladimir Richard, Piper
Big kid with long arms. He is probably best suited to play defensive tackle in College. He is very strong in the upper body and plays hard on every down. He needs to improve his technique and learn to not come off the ball so high. Right now Miami is the team to beat.

DE Gerrald Williams, Boyd Anderson
At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds he has the frame to play defensive end in college. He plays linebacker right now but he is a natural for End. Great frame and what upside. On one play against Piper Williams was playing linebacker he read pass picked it off at the 5 yard line and could have gone the distance. The defensive player had the angle or Williams scores. Miami was his favorite team growing up but they are probably going to sign only 1-2 defensive ends. His coach said if not Miami than he will go to FSU.

DE Demtri Stewart, Northeast Ft Lauderdale
Stewart plays linebacker in HS but most likely will move to end in college. He is 6'4, 225 pounds right now. He has a nice frame and should add some weight on as well. He is another kid that is a big Miami fan but will they run out of numbers. Coach Cristopal for Miami who came from Rutgers has been all over this kid. Miami leads right now.

DE Richard Gordon, Norland
Right now Gordon is a bit of a project but the few times I have seen him he was impressive. Dude plays with a mean streak and wants to hurt someone when he is on the field. He is real tall and has long arms. He is listed at 6'4 and over 220 pounds. He is a prospect to keep an eye on this year. He is a sleeper prospect from South Florida.

DT- Jeffrey Owens- (Plantation)- Owens most likely will be the top defensive tackle in the state this year. He is a big, wide body kid that runs exceptionally well for someone his size. He likes FSU a lot and will camp there this summer most likely. He also was at FSU OB practices this year. Miami, FL, Pitt will also have a say in where he goes.

LB Dustin Forsten, Miami Nortwestern
He plays defensive end for NW but most likely will move to linebacker in college. When you want to talk quick off the ball than Forsten is the one to look at. Great speed and quickness off the edge. He led dade county in sacks last year with over 20. He was also one of the team leaders on NW with TFL. He is wide open and likes FSU a lot from what I was told. Miami, UF, FSU will fight for this kid.

LB Elijah Hodge, Dillard
Hodge is probably the best linebacker in South Florida this year. His brother Abdul Hodge played and started as a freshman for Iowa. His favorite team growing up was FSU. FSU will fight with Ohio State and Iowa for him. NC State is also in the picture.

S Dorian Munroe, Coral Reef
Most impressive stat on this kid is he led Dade County in interceptions. Has good size 6'1 and runs in the 4.4.-4.5 range. He plays safety but could also play some at CB as well. He is wide open right now but also grew up a Nole fan. He is freinds with Bobby Washington and Sean Taylor so the canes are right there as well.

S Kenny Phillips, Carol City
Phillips will be one of the top players in Florida this year. He is unreal and a fun player to watch. He has great size and speed. His technique is probably the best I saw from a defensive back last year. He grew up a gator fan but UM will be tough to beat. FSU will get a visit and anything could happen. Miami is his leader most likely.

S Walter McFadden, Pompano Ely
If the name sounds familar to Seminoles fans it should. He is related to Bryant McFadden. One of his former coaches that I spoke to felt he was one of the best DB he has ever had on one of his teams. He runs in the 4.5 range and can lay the lumber. I have yet to speak with him but from what I was told McFadden is wide open.

DB Detrius Mortley, Miami Killian
Here is a kid that is not on most gurus radar screen yet but he will be real soon. I was told by someone close to Killian that said they felt he was better than JR Bryant last year. He is a real physical kid and he can run. Grew up a big time nole fan. FSU will have to fight NC State and some other oos teams for him.

CB Chris Chancellor, Miami Edison
Chancellor grew up a big time nole fan and that is where he is leading. Great kid that works real hard. He has good technique and does not get beat often. Will be surprised if offered if he is not a nole.
