Monday Football Practice Report
The scrimmage wasn't bad," said head coach Bobby Bowden. "I think we are getting better. It was a good day for the defense. They jumped anything that strayed."
McFadden stepped in front of a Chris Rix pass for the defense's first interception of the day and brought it back 30 yards for a score. Hall followed with an interception of walk-on quarterback Tommy Keane. Smith and Watkins brought the total with four with a pair of picks off Rix and brought them both back for scores. Watkins' interception came during goalline. McFadden, Smith and Ernie Sims also broke up one pass each.
A.J. Nicholson, Eric Moore and Charles Howard led a strong pass rush with two sacks apiece. Kamerion Wimbley, Darrell Burston and Willie Jones each had one sack.
Walk-on tailback Steven Keane had the longest play of the day for the offense, a 25- yard rush. Robert Hallback led all receivers with three catches for 28 yards.
The offense scored once on six attempts, a one-yard run by William Rutledge, during goalline. Sims, Roger Williams and Ray Piquion each had a tackle for loss.
The Seminoles return to practice Wednesday afternoon and will hold another half-scrimmage. The team will hold a light practice Friday with coaches from the annual clinic on hand. Spring practice concludes Saturday with the Garnet & Gold game at 2:00 p.m. on April 3. The game will be held at Gene Cox Stadium as the new irrigation and drainage system is being installed on the field at Doak Campbell Stadium.
