Noles Land Georgia Standout

The Seminoles landed one the top athletes in the Southeast today and there are whispers that this Georgia standout is the league of Georgia Bulldog Brandon Miller.


According to Columbus (GA) Pecelli Head Coach Kevin Pettis, 6-foot-2 and 220 pound running back/safety Matt Dunham is racking up the scholarship offers, including one from Florida State.

After Florida State defensive end coach Jody Allen paid a visit Pecelli high school today, he got some good news later in the day.

"Matt Dunham verbally committed to Florida State today," Pettis said. "Part of him wanted to keep his options open but Matt told me that he's been a Seminole his whole life and that he couldn't pass on his dream school. He won't visit any other schools. Matt plans on visiting Florida State officially and attending the summer football camp."

Dunham is The Insiders.com No 1 rated running back in the state of Georgia. However, he such a good athlete that he could end up at several other positions at the next level, including, defensive end, linebacker and safety.

"He's the best football player that I've ever been around," Pettis said. "He's 6-foot-3 and 233 pounds with 4.5 40 speed. He has the frame to add 30 pounds and he can play running back, outside linebacker, and defensive end. Florida State told me that Matt could play any position he wants and Matt told me that he'll play any position that gets him on the field the fastest."

As a junior, Dunham rushed the ball 121 times for 1,620 yards, which is a 13.3 yards per carry average, and he scored 28 touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 87 yards and returned two punts for touchdowns and those are just his offensive statistics. On the defensive side of the ball, he recorded 111 tackles and six interceptions.

Dunham is close to qualifying academically with a 2.6 grade point average. He needs a slight increase in his test score.
