Noles Offer Palmetto Standout

Many consider this athlete the top player in South Carolina for good reason. The reason is 30 scholarship offers in the early part of May, including Florida and Florida. What does he think about the Gators and the Noles?

"I went down to Florida for a spring practice," C.J. Byrd of North Augusta (SC) said. "I really like Coach Charlie Strong. Florida isn't too far or too close to home. I want to major in the medical field and Florida looks like a good place to go to school for that. I don't know much about Florida State. But, I want to visit them. I'll go down there this summer."

Byrd, who is a lock for The Hot 100 list, is wide open at this time and he won't be narrowing his list down until summer.

What makes the 6-foot-3 and 184 pound wide receiver/defensive back so special?

"I've been playing football for a while now and I would say I have a lot of knowledge for the game," he said. "I have instincts so I knew where to go get the ball."

As a junior Byrd caught 37 passes for 536 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, he recorded 92 tackles and two interceptions.

Byrd is an excellent student who should have no problems qualifying academically.
