Bobby Talks FSU Football

Last night The Territory.org was at the Clay County booster club dinner featuring Seminole head coach Bobby Bowden. We'll run down the highlights of what the Coach Bowden said.

Former Seminole great Leroy Butler was also a guest at the event. Coach Bowden praised the former Packer standout and said that players like Butler were the reason why Florida State has been so great for many years.

The head coach talked about how much he admired Greg Jones. Touting his unselfishness and that he never had a problem with him.

The head coach talked a lot about spring practice and he wasn't pleased with the amount of players that missed practice due to surgeries. He did say the backups got some valuable experience and that pretty much everyone that was held out should be ready to go in August.

He talked about how valuable Cro Thorpe was as a junior and that the doctors say he's making normal progress and that the Seminole wide out will be ready to go in August.

Coach Bowden said that starting running back Leon Washington is the most prolific running back at Florida State since Warrick Dunn .He talked about how special of a player that Jacksonville native was as a freshman by doing it all, including special teams. He wouldn't trade the Seminole backs for any in the country.

He also said that Lorenzo Booker had a great spring and he has Warrick Dunn like moves.

Talked about how it was difficult for quarterback Chris Rix to shine due to all the injuries to his supporting class over the spring. Coach Bowden thinks Rix should have a very good senior season.

He likes the fact that backup quarterback Wyatt Sexton will be a redshirt junior and things will be back to normal the following year in terms of not starting a freshman at quarterback.

He also said he hopes that one of the incoming freshman quarterbacks (Xavier Lee and Drew Weatherford) don't have to start because that would be a bad sign at the quarterback position.

Coach Bowden feels the defense will be better than last year's defense. He pointed out that the secondary and linebacker position should be improved. He thinks the linebacker position will be the strength on the defense.

Chris Hall will be the starting punter.

He hopes that freshman kicker Gary Cismesia from Bradenton (Fla.) Lakewood Ranches will push Xavier Beitia.

The head coach told the packed crowd that he believes Jacksonville is in the lead for hosting the ACC championship game. He would rather play there instead of Charlotte or Tampa.
