Who Is The Team To Beat For Daytona Beach TE?

The past two years Florida State hasn't signed a tight in prospect which makes signing at least two for the class of 2005 a very big priority. The Noles have offered a 6-foot-3 and 230 pound standout with 4.6 40-yard dash speed from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland. A couple of years ago, the Seminoles signed Buster Davis who graduated from that same school. Will the Noles have the same luck from Mainland this time around?

"I like Oklahoma, LSU, Florida State and UCF," tight end Brian Ellis said. "Florida State is home. I've always went to a lot of Florida State games. Last year I went to three of their games. This year I'll probably go to some of their games. That's probably where I'll go to school."

What does he like about the Sooners and Tigers?

"I've always liked Oklahoma," he said. "I have a friend that went to LSU but he didn't play any sports there."

Right now the Daytona Beach standout has offers from Oklahoma, Florida State, LSU, Central Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Ellis, who has excellent size and speed, has been catching college scouts eyes with his fluid athletic ability. He plays both tight end and defensive end for his high school team but he projects on offense at the next level.

As a juniorthe athletic tight end caught several key passes in the playoffs to help Mainland secure a state championship.

In May he also stood out in a jamboree against Madison by picking up a fumble and out racing the entire Cowboy team for an 85-yard score. Unfortunately, he had to leave the game with a neck strain.

What is Ellis doing this summer?

"I can't attend any football camps because I'm working full-time this summer," he said. "I'm working at the Adam's Mark hotel. I help the maids and bring them towels and that sort of thing."

When will he make a decision and what will be the big factor?

"I'll probably make a decision after the football season," he said. "My biggest factor will be getting a good education so I can get a degree."

In September, Ellis will take the SAT test.

Florida State is also in the running for his teammate Avery Atkins who is a 1st team all-south member.
