Tuesday Practice Report

The Seminoles practiced in full pads for 24 periods Tuesday afternoon. The workout concluded with 10 minutes of 11-on-11 and five minutes of goalline.

The defense held the upper hand during 11-on-11 as Willie Jones and Clifton Dickson recorded sacks. Travis Johnson added a tackle for loss. During goalline, the No. 2 offense was 1-for-4 with the lone score coming on a Lamar Lewis sweep. The No. 1 offense scored twice in four tries as Jamaal Edwards and Dominic Robinson had touchdown runs. Sam McGrew had a pass break-up on the final play that was nearly intercepted by Buster Davis. The Seminoles will return to practice Wednesday afternoon and work for 30 minutes on the practice fields before heading to Doak Campbell Stadium for a scrimmage.

Bobby Bowden QUOTES (on today's practice)

"We had some good heat again today and you could tell it. We got through it. We have got to start pulling back on some of the 11-on-11. The quarterbacks were not accurate today, they were not sharp."

(on freshmen linebackers)

"Jae Thaxton. They are getting some opportunities other guys aren't getting with people ahead of them being out. Anytime there's an injury, there's an opportunity for somebody."

WR Willie Reid

(on practice)

"Practices are going pretty good right now, we have a lot of guys nicked up and tired from just coming out of two-a-days. Overall we are battling through the heat and all of the injuries but I think we will be on track for the game"

(on his role and battling Chauncey Stovall for starting honors)

"I think I am going to have more of a role than the last two years. I am getting more reps and a lot more plays this year. I am going to have a bigger role and I am ready and prepared for it. Chris (Rix) is reading defenses better and finding open receivers and I feel we are improving. Battling Chauncey (Stovall) is helping a whole lot. We really don't talk about it much but we push each other a lot, he pushes me and I push him. We are both out here trying to make plays. We are both good athletes and are not concerned about the plays that we get, we just want to make each other better."

CB Bryant McFadden

(on defense and opening against Miami)

"The defense is coming along pretty well, we still have to tighten up on the little things but each day is an improvement day. For the game we are trying to make a statement but, regardless of who we are opening with, whether it's Miami or another team then we are coming out the same way. We treat it like it's our last game or our bowl game. Just like we want to try and finish our season off strong we want to start our season off strong. We are taking this game just like it is our bowl game."

(on the defensive line)

"The front four are doing an awesome job right now. A lot of those guys have experience from last year and they are showing it in practice by getting to the QB on just about every down. They are making our job a lot easier and we hope that they can continue that throughout the whole season"
