Florida State freshman linebacker Rodney Gallon had reason to smile on Wednesday.

His left knee is fine.

No damage. No tears. Just a sprain.

"They didn't find any tears or anything like that," Gallon said following Wednesday's practice.

"My knee never felt like that before but thank God it's nothing serious. Hopefully, I will be back by Monday."

Gallon, a former standout from Lincoln High School, has made a favorable impression this preseason.

With injuries to starter A.J. Nicholson and backup Marcello Church at weakside linebacker, the athletic Gallon was working with the second team along with juco transfer Barry Wright.

Gallon also was listed second team on kickoff coverage.

Gallon, fitted with a knee brace, watched the Seminoles' Wednesday practice. Gallon is hopeful he can return to practice by next week, though the training staff plans to be patient with the eager freshman.

Gallon was just thankful his knee injury wasn't any more serious. He was hurt during Monday's scrimmage.

"I was on kick coverage, I was back peddling and something didn't feel right," Gallon said.
