Florida State tailback Leon Washington continues to impress.

The versatile has sealed his role as the punt returner, and may line up on the kick return team when the Seminoles open the season Sept. 6 at Miami.

"(Leon's) the punt returner; nobody has taken it away from him,'' said defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews, who also coaches punt teams.

"He's involved in a bunch of offensive plays, and returning kickoffs ... but whether he's involved in covering punts or whatever, there may come a time when he needs a rest and you need to let the next guy go.

"The problem is over number two (punt returner) right now.''

Andrews said Dominic Robinson, Chris Davis and Willie Reid are being tried as a backup.

Washington said being a solid return specialist is one of the ways he envisions himself making it to th next level.

Plus, he absolutely loves it.

"Punt return is my favorite because I know it's one of those things you don't get many guys who like to do it because it's ... some people might say it's scary,'' Washington said.

"But it's one of those things few people can do, and I love to do it."
