Wednesday Practice Report

The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles (3-1, 2-1 ACC) worked out for 20 periods as they continued to prepare for Saturday's game at Syracuse (3-2, 1-0 BIG EAST). For the second straight day, Chris Rix stayed inside to rehab and was not at practice. Drew Weatherford got some work in early, but then went inside for treatment. The coaching staff is still undecided as to who will back-up Wyatt Sexton against Syracuse.

The team wrapped up the day with 11-on-11 drills. Sexton hit Chauncey Stovall for 10 yards and the defense got a sack from Kamerion Wimbley and a pass break-up for Jerome Carter during situational scrimmaging. Sexton went 4-of-6 for 45 yards during one-minute offense to set up a field goal attempt. Carter had a second deflection to lead the defense when he batted down a pass at the line on a blitz.

Bobby Bowden QUOTES

(on the quarterback situation)

"What would we do if Sexton had to come out of the game? A lot of it would have to do with what the score was at that time. Of course, Chris (Rix) is a guy who could come in and hand the ball off and throw some out of the shot gun if he had to. We are not wanting to do that either. Could Drew go in there and do that? Today he didn't look like he would be able to play. Maybe he could do that. We still have (Xavier) Lee and (Tommy) Keane. I would rather not play Lee. We would have to make a decision at game time about situations. We will have to wait and see. Rix is out and Drew is not like we hoped he would be today. Drew could probably go in there, hand the ball off and throw the ball if we had to."

(on not having a bye week)

"It would be nice to have a week off but we don't have it. It is mighty hard to plan for because when you don't need a week off, that might be when you have it. When you do need a week off, you don't have it. Everyone has that same problem."

(on looking ahead to Virginia)

"If they look ahead then we are in trouble. I think they are too smart for that. We have been through that with Clemson. They shouldn't be looking ahead at all."

OG Bobby Meeks

(on playing on artificial turf)

"All through high school I played on it, so when I got here it was different for me going from turf to grass. That's all I played on in high school. That's all I was accustomed to, but it has been a while since I played on it."

(on playing at Syracuse)

"Notre Dame was pretty fun. I am really excited about going up there and playing in New York. I heard that environment up there is really alive. The stadium is real loud and the fans get into the games. It should be exciting for us."

(on Wyatt Sexton's performance)

"I am very proud of Wyatt being the young guy that he is. He had to step up and fill in for Chris Rix and a lot of people didn't think he was ready because he is so young and was always backing up Rix. I think he has done a great job and is taking advantage of is opportunity and that's really the thing you need to do at Florida State."
