Noles Making A Move on Daytona DB

Over the summer a five-star defensive back from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland made verbal commitment to the Florida Gators. However, it looks like the Noles and Canes aren't going to give up without a fight.

Florida is still on top," Avery Atkins said. "Florida State and Miami are right behind them though. I actually visited Florida State for the North Carolina game with my teammate Matt Lewis."

How was his time in Tallahassee?

"It was good," he said. "I got to see a couple of former teammates in Vince Wilson and Buster Davis play. I also got to meet Antonio Cromartie and the whole defense in the locker room."

Do the Noles have a legitimate shot with's No.4 rated defensive back in the country?

"Florida State has shot because of their depth chart," he said. "After this season, they will lose a lot of defensive backs."

Last Saturday, Atkins visited the swamp unofficially for Florida/LSU game.

"It was crazy," he said. "I thought Florida was going to win. Next week I'm either going to the Florida State/Virginia game or the Florida game. I haven't made up my mind yet."

Last Friday, Atkins helped lead his team to victory over Orlando Edgewater by recording five tackles and returning a 40-yard fumble for a score.

"I got a concussion because I hit some dude too hard," he said.

Atkins has been selected for the Army All-American game in San Antonio which is being sponsored by
