FSU FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES FUTURE FOOTBALL OPPONENTS
The home game with The Citadel will take place five days after FSU's season-opener against Miami on Labor Day night, which will allow for an open date somewhere during the season. The Seminoles' other non-conference games in 2005 will be Syracuse in Tallahassee and Florida in Gainesville.
"Playing The Citadel at home on a short week affords us the balance we desired in our 2005 schedule in terms of our Labor Day night game and our desire not to play 10 consecutive weeks in fulfilling that commitment," Hart said. "Les Robinson is very familiar with both the ACC and the Southern Conference which have enjoyed a long standing relationship over the years, as I have with Les on a personal and professional level. All of those factors contributed to this one year contract with The Citadel."
"In striking a balance in future scheduling in a 12-team ACC, playing Oklahoma delivers home-and-home contests against and established national program which both fan bases and college football fans in general, can point toward."
Other FSU non-conference games will be announced as games are brought to contract and a decision is reached regarding possible adoption of a twelfth game nationally. Hart reiterated his position on scheduling philosophy in a 12-team conference with the University of Florida as an annual non-conference foe.
"As I stated when we expanded the ACC to 12 we will now schedule, to the extent possible, with all factors being considered such as conference divisional play and cross-division opponents, Labor Day and Thursday night obligations, placement of open dates and the balance of home and road games each year as well as the ACC Championship game," said Hart. "The formula is more complex, particularly with an emphasis on the number of home games I'd like to see us play each year as well as these other important factors. Having said that, I feel very good about us striking the best balance possible over the next 10 years."
