Noles and Dawgs will Battle for Top DT

Florida State is in a battle with Georgia for one of the Sunshine State's top defensive players. The 6-foot-2 and 275 pound defensive tackle from Plantation (Fla.) gives Scout.com the latest on his recruitment.

"I had an in-home visit from Coach Garner of Georgia," four-star prospect Jeffery Owens said. "It was good. We talked about early playing time at Georgia. They have three juniors and two sophomores on their roster."

Owens, who has already taken an official visit to Georgia, is quite impressed with the Dawgs. They could be the team to beat.

"Georgia stands out the most to me right now," he said. I have a chance to play early there and I was very impressed with their facilities. "Florida State isn't far behind. I could get some early playing time there as well."

This upcoming weekend, he'll trip to Oklahoma on an official visit. He will also visit Miami (1/21) and Florida State (1/28).

Owens, who registered 80 tackles and 15 sacks as a senior, has been selected to play in the Florida/California All-Star game.
