Bowdens Visits Jacksonville Standout

Last night Coach Bobby Bowden and two assistants stopped by the home of one the most underrated players in the Southeast. How did the in-home visit go for the 6-foot-1 and 170 pound All- First Coast Standout?

"It went well," Jacksonville (Fla.) Wolfson wide receiver Rod Owens said. "Bobby Bowden made a great impressive. I've always known he was a great person but he's also a family-type of person. He's a coach that you can come to and talk with."

What did the star athlete and Seminole coaching staff discuss?

"We asked some questions," he said. "My mother asked him what my chances of playing time were and what it was going to take to show my stuff. Coach told me if I work hard a do my thing, I will play."

This week Owens, will take his official visit to Florida State and then he will most likely make a decision soon between the Noles and Maryland Terps. The Seminoles are considered the team to beat because of location.

Owens was selected to the All-First Coast Team as a junior and a senior. In last two seasons played, he caught 103 passes for over 2,000 yards receiving with 31 touchdowns.
Owens is an accomplished track star who has won several state championships in track, including 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the long jump.

He is an excellent student who is on track to qualify academically.
