Dawg Commitment has Two Visits Left

In the 3rd quarter of the Florida/California All-Star game defensive tackle Jeff Owens of Plantation (Fla.) announced that he would be playing football for the next four or five years of his life in Athens (Ga.) However, the 6-foot-2 and 275 pound four-star prospect will check out Florida this week and Florida State on (1/28) just to make sure.

"When I committed to Georgia, Miami canceled my visit so I set up a visit to Florida instead," defensive tackle Jeffery Owens said. "Florida told me come on up and take a look."

Last week Florida State sent two assistant coaches to his house in hopes of changing his mind. On Thus day Georgia will be in his house in order to secure his commitment.

What will it take for the Gators and Noles to overcome the Dawgs?

"I'll have to feel it on my visit," he said.

What attracted Owens about Georgia over in-state schools like Miami and Florida State?

"Georgia has an excellent program and they are a team on the rise," he said. "Miami and Florida State win every year but Georgia is moving in the right direction. They are only losing David Pollack, Odell Thurman and (Will) Thompson."

As a senior, he recorded 78 tackles, 15 sacks, and 30 tackles for loss.
