Is NC LB Down to Two Schools?

In San Antonio at the Army All-American game, linebacker Derek Nicholson of Winston Salem (NC) Mount Tabor made his case for the top linebacker in the country by racking up nine tackles and three quarterback pressures. This week, the 6-foot-0 and 228 pound standout will visit Texas. Next week, it will be the Seminoles turn to host him on a visit.

"Last night I had an in-home visit with Florida State," Derek Nicholson said. "It went great. I would say it was a ten. Coach Bowden, Lilly, Steele, Haggins and Andrews were all there and we didn't even talk recruiting."

Nicholson, who has had a long list of schools, is down to two schools.

"Texas got into kind of late so it probably will come down to Florida State or North Carolina," he said. "It's going to be a tough decision."

The North Carolina standout has talked and visited with many coaches from across the country but one coaching staff stands out.

"I like Florida State's coaches the best," he said. "Coach Lilly is so laid back and Coach Steele is always fired up."

Nicholson, who is fully qualified, has recorded over 500 career tackles.
