Coach Andrews is High on Freshman CB
Ford will be competing with freshman Tony Carter and true sophomore J.R. Bryant for the starting job.The former Miami (Fla.) Northwestern standout was doing well in fall practices until a strained his Achilles tendon which forced him into a walking boot.
"I'm feeling pretty good right now," Trevor Ford said. "I would say I'm around 85% right now and I'm participating in all the mat drills. I'm ready for spring practices to get here. I've added about ten pounds of muscle and I'm now 195 pounds."
"Trevor is very talented player," Florida State defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews said. "He's the biggest guy out of the freshman group of corners. He stayed hurt most of the year and he didn't get a whole lot of reps. Hopefully, he stays healthy and he makes up some ground this spring."
Larry Blustein, a player analysis for Florida Kids. us, has probably seen the former South Florida standout play more anyone in the business.
"I've seen Trevor four or five time lives over two year period," Blustein said. "I've seen him twice at a camp and I had the opportunity to see him on tape about three or four times his senior year as well. He's a physical kid that will fit in real well. He's got that attitude that Florida State loves in terms of being a gamer. He loves to hit but probably will have to work on his skills. I think he'll end up being a three year starter at Florida State. He beats up receivers pretty good and that's probably his biggest attribute. He's a lot like Bryant McFadden where he wears people down which is a good thing."
Blustein favorite thing about the freshman Seminole defensive back is his heart.
"He's the type of kid even if he gets beat on a play or two; he always comes back and works harder to make sure it never happens again which is a pretty strong attribute for any type of athlete," Blustein said. "He's the type of guy you want to go into battle with and he has some big upside."
"As a senior in high school, he recorded 56 tackles, 11 pass breakups and five interceptions. He also picked off one pass in the Florida/California All-Star game.
