The Auburndale native had just undergone surgery a month prior, and for Davis this was his first chance to show the professional coaches and scouts in attendance his ability in person.
"I was wondering whether I was prepared," Davis said.
But as soon as Davis began to run the anxiousness turned into confidence.
At Tuesday's pro timing day, held at Florida State, Davis set times of 4.79 and 4.83 in the 40-yard dash. He hit 22 reps on the 225-pound bench press, the same number recorded in Indianapolis.
"We wanted him to come down and run today," Davis' agent Kevin Conner said. "He definitely improved. Chauncey's film work is exceptional in terms of what the scouts are seeing. He's explosive, he's quick, he can play. A lot of teams are calling about Chauncey."
One of the teams that has shown interest in Davis is the Atlanta Falcons. Davis said he spoke with the organization about his background, and how he would fit into Atlanta's scheme.
"We've looked at the film and evaluated his combine stuff, and that's what we're here for," Atlanta defensive line coach Bill Johnson said. "We want to gather information and make a decision. He's a guy that caught our attention, and that's why we're here today."
Johnson added that he was impressed with Davis' playing ability and the effort he puts forth on the field. Davis notched 22 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, and a team-leading five sacks this past season.
"Defensive linemen are hard to come by. You have to dig, and look under every stone, and do your homework," Johnson said.
Davis underwent surgery on Jan. 3 to release pressure in his right calf caused by compartment syndrome, a condition where increased pressure within a muscle compartment causes a decrease in blood supply to the affected muscles.
Towards the end of January he began working out at a full pace again. Davis started training in Atlanta with Extreme Performance Enhancement in preparation for the combine, according to Conner.
"They are going to watch the film, so they know how you can play. Coming out here and performing just helps it out," Davis said. "You get to show your natural ability."
