Defense Dominates Half Scrimmage

The Seminoles hit the practice field for a full pad 26 period practice, including a half scrimmage inside of Doak Campbell Stadium. The defensive dominated the scrimmage but there were a couple of bright spots for the offense.

Today, the defensive totally dominated the offense in the half scrimmage which was lead by strong play of the linebackers and a three sack performance by Kamerion Wimbley.

However, the offense had a few bright spots when Xavier Lee hit DeCody Fagg for a 70-yard touchdown and when Drew Weatherford connected with Lorne Sam in the corner of the end zone for a 35 yard touchdown.

"We'll study the film and we see a missed assignment here and a missed assignment there," Coach Bobby Bowden said.  "We'll see missed technique here and missed technique there.  That's what causes breakdowns. That's the way they learn and got get it all corrected."

Decody Fagg had another excellent practice by catching two passes for approximately 71 yard, including a 70 touchdown.

"Doesn't surprise me," Bowden said.   "He's practiced well this spring.  We got some good receiver if we can get them the ball."

Junior wide receiver Lorne Sam also had another solid day by catching two passes for 50 yards including a 35-yard touchdown from Weatherford.

The play of the quarterbacks was very inconsistent.  All three took their turn at fumbling the snap.

"The quarterbacks were about like what you would expect on the first day," Bowden said.  "They threw some nice passes and threw some others maybe not as good.  Got sacked a few times and had some fumbles which is typical for the first day."

What I liked:

The linebackers were very active with Ernie Sims and Buster Davis having tackles for a loss.  A.J. Nicholson, Lawrence Timmons and Jae Thaxton were also quite active on the day. In addition to Wimbley, Alex Boston, Darrell Burston and D.J. Norris all had pressures. Pat Watkins stepped in front of Greg Carr to intercept a Weatherford pass.

There were several completions to the tight end.

What I Didn't Like:

The offensive line got beat like a drum.  The defense constantly got penetration.  In goal line drills the defense stopped the offense nine straight times.  The quarterbacks had very little time to pass.  All three quarterbacks fumbled several times.  They all three were inconsistent.

Center David Castillo reinjured his middle finger and defensive end D.J. Norris injured his shoulder.
