Saturday's Scrimmage Report

Today, the defense got the best of the offense until quarterback Xavier Lee and wide receiver Greg Carr started to heat up. Coach Bowden really likes what he see's in his young, talented duo.

After having a great week of practice, quarterback Xavier Lee might have slightly separated himself from the pack. Coach Bobby Bobby Bowden took notice.

"The athleticism of some of the players really did show," Coach Bowden said. "(Xavier) Lee had three touchdowns passes and he's really coming along. He's getting them into the end zone. A couple of them were scrambles. He's moving them. I want to see more of him with the one's the next time we scrimmage to see how he looks with them."

Lee was 7 of 13 for 140 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. One of his touchdowns came in goal line drills.

With several receivers sitting out due to injuries, true freshman Greg Carr got the opportunity to see more playing time and he delivered.

"Talking about athleticism showing up," Bowden said. "Greg Carr had several nice catches," Bowden. "We had a lot of receivers out. The tight end could catch a ball today. They had several first downs in their hands and they dropped them."

Cromarte Dons Red Jersey

With a shortage of wide receivers, cornerback Antonio Cromartie slipped into a red jersey and the potential All- American had a nice 56-yard catch.

"I think he slipped himself in," Bowden said of Cromartie. "I don't think Mickey (Andrews) knew about that. I didn't know about that. He would love to be over there and he would love to play both."

Coach Bowden made it clear that he wouldn't allow Cromartie to go both ways without the approval of Coach Andrews.

"Coach Andrews told me it was ok but we need to go through Coach Bowden and go from there," Cromartie said.

Sexton Slipping?

Sexton, who has been the odds on favorite to win the starting spot, is starting to lose ground to the two freshmen.

"We simply can't protect him," Bowden said. "If we get protection, he can throw with anybody. He hasn't been able to avoid the pressure around him."

Wounded Receivers:

Today there were several receivers sitting out with injuries, including DeCody Fagg (sprained ankle), Lorne Sam (foot) , Willie Reid (ankle) and Kenny O'Neal (track).

"DeCody has a sprained ankle and he is probably out for the spring," Bowden said. "Sam hurt that foot that he had operated on and they are going to X-ray it next week."

Scrimmage Visitors:

The Territory spotted a few former Seminoles at the scrimmage, including Michael Boulware, Stanford Samuels and Chris Weinke. Also, attending the scrimmage was junior offensive guard Chad Roark of Ada (OK).
