Noles Keeping an Eye on Clearwater LB

Each year, Florida State is always looking to sign a couple of linebackers. Lately, the Seminoles have been keeping a close eye on a prospect from Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic.

"Coach Steele of Florida State came by my school on Monday to talk with my coach," Colin McCarthy said. "Coach Dickey called me on Tuesday night."

So far the 6-foot-3 and 215 pound standout has impressive list of offers which includes, South Florida, FAU, FIU, West Virginia, Illinois, Indiana and Rutgers.

"I'm originally from Pennsylvania so Penn State was my dream school growing up," he said. "However, since I've been in Florida, Florida State is my number one team."

McCarthy has two teammates in Cooper Riley and Kevin Young who are also high Division 1A prospects. Have the three friends talked about playing for the same school?

"We all hang out together and we have all talked about it," he said. "The common schools for all three of us are Florida State and Miami. However, in the end, we have to do what's best for ourselves."

As a junior, he recorded 163 total tackles on defense (118 solo and 45 assists), including 13 for a loss. He added four sacks, five interceptions; two caused fumbles, and one defensive touchdown. On offense, he caught 32 passes for 595 yards and eight touchdowns.

At the Scout.com camp in Tampa, McCarthy had an outstanding showing with a 40-yard dash time of 4.6 seconds to go along with a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.31 seconds.
