Clearwater LB Brings It!
Well, McCarthy is the real deal. In three quarters of play against a school two classes higher than his own. The Clearwater standout showed what he is capable of by recording nine solo tackles, two sacks and an interception. On the offensive side of the ball, he had two catches, one for a 15-yard touchdown and the other was a 7-yard slant that he caught and then ran 65 yards up the middle for a touchdown. He also returns punts. On two consecutive punts, it looked like he was the one looking to hit somebody. Each time, he broke it outside and before going out of bounds he made sure to knock somebody on their back.
McCarthy reminds me of Brian Urlacher, but when Urlacher was younger and not so overrated. He ignites his teammates with every bone-crunching hit and is a vocal leader on the bench. Although he's listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he looks to be about 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds. Regardless of this kid's size, he has the heart and smarts to contribute to any team at any level.
