FSU Offers Oakland Standout

Two recruiting classes ago, Florida State went into Oakland (Ca) and landed one of the top wide receivers in the country in Kenny O'Neal. This year, the Noles have offered another offensive player from that area.

Na Derris Ward, a tight end from Oakland (CA) McClymonds, has recently been offered by Florida State.

"My most recent offer came from Florida State," Ward, a 6-foot-5 and 245 pound standout, said. "They are one of the few schools that I was hoping for an offer from. Florida State is one of the teams that stands out to me. Coach Lilly was straight up and told me that probably could play right away but there was going to be competition."

Ward is also high on Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Miami and Cal.

"I have a lot of family in the Atlanta area and it's a wonderful place," he said. "We go on vacation there every December."

The California standout is on his way to the Cal camp and he also hopes to make stops at both Miami and Florida State's camps this summer.

"I also want to make some official visits in the fall but I won't make a decision until after the season," he said. "I'm a team player and I want to help focus on winning a championship in my senior season."

What makes Ward standout from the typical player?

"I have a real strong work-ethic and a strong drive," he said. "Competition doesn't mean anything to me because I will out work everyone. I'm also very strong, physical and quick."

As a junior, he had 15 receptions for 400 yards and four touchdowns.
