Just like Woodson at Michigan, Cromartie is hoping to reconnect with another dimension of his game by playing multiple positions this fall. Woodson won the Heisman after the 1997 season, a campaign in which he terrorized opponents on defense and gave them another threat to think about on offense by lining up at receiver and in the slot. Though Woodson totaled just 231 yards and a pair of scores on offense that season, his prowess returning kicks and ability to play both sides of the ball allowed him to beat out Peyton Manning for college football's highest honor.

"It takes a special person with the right kind of mindset to do it," Woodson said. "You have to have tenacity and you have to like to compete. You also have to be an (outstanding) athlete."

"A lot of people around think Florida State football is going downhill," Cromartie said. "As a unit, we have some work to do to shut people up.

"In our opinion, we still feel like we are one of the best teams in the country and we're just coming up. We are as good as any team that we line up against."
