No. 8 Florida State Baseball Hosts South Alabama

Florida State stayed at No. 8 in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll after taking all three games at Miami last weekend for the first time in school history.

#8 FLORIDA STATE (34-11)

Florida State stayed at No. 8 in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll after taking all three games at Miami last weekend for the first time in school history. FSU won five of six against UM for the first time since 1991. The Seminoles, who have more victories than any team in the country, are led by senior All-America third baseman Ryan Barthelemy (.396, 11 HR, 63 RBI). Sophomore Tony McQuade leads the team with a .414 batting average. Junior RHP Robby Read (5-1, 4.37 ERA) will get the start for the Seminoles on the mound against South Alabama. Sophomore LHP Trent Peterson (2-2, 2.76 ERA) will start Wednesday at Jacksonville. FSU returns to ACC play this weekend with a three-game home series against Georgia Tech. Game times are set for 7:00 p.m. Friday, 1:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Saturday's game will be televised as the ACC Game of the Week.

SOUTH ALABAMA (23-11)

South Alabama defeated Jacksonville State in two games over the weekend (6-5 and 8-2) to improve to 23-11 on the season. Florida State will be the seventh ranked team USA has played so far this season. The Jaguars are 5-6 against ranked opponents with wins over Mississippi, Alabama, Mississippi State and Clemson. Junior RHP Caleb Crosby (1-0, 6.41 ERA), who played junior college baseball at Chipola, will make his third start of the season Tuesday evening.

THE SERIES

Florida State leads the all-time series with South Alabama 32-23-1, which dates back to 1969. The two teams last met in 1995 when the Seminoles won a 7-2 contest in NCAA Regional play at Dick Howser Stadium.
