RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Florida State women's tennis team fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-1, Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the ACC Tournament at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center. The Seminoles' lone point came from winning two out of three doubles matches to open the match. The Seminoles finished the season at 12-14.
In doubles, at the No. 1 position, senior Jessica Balbuena and freshman Lauren Walker defeated Marlene Mejia and Julie Rotundi 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of senior Alida Gallovits and Christina Denny overcame North Carolina's Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis in an 8-5 decision.
Despite the point advantage, the Seminoles however could not overcome a strong singles effort by the Tar Heels, who won the first four singles matches in straight sets. Lauren Walker's match against Lee Bairos at the No. 5 position and Anca Dumitrescu's No. 1 singles match were halted once the match was decided, due to the time constraints of the tournament.
Upon returning home, the Seminoles will await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament selections.
