Teleconference Call with Ralph Friedgen

Renegade Report caught up with Maryland's Head Coach Ralph Friedgen on a teleconference with other media members. The Terrapins skipper talks about the Seminole's young talent and about his team's injury situation at quarterback.

On FSU's young players: They have a lot of talented young freshman players and they seem to reload every year. They do a good job of coaching their young skill players. I'm amazed their quarterback is doing so well.

On linebacker D'Quell Jackson coming from the state of Florida: We liked him very much. I think he was a Gator fan and I think he wanted to go to Florida but they didn't offer him until late. I actually thought we were going lose him (to Florida) but he decided to stay with Maryland. He's not only a good player but he's a great kid. I'm sorry to see him leave because he's contributed so much. Both he and Shawn Merriman were rated high second round in last year's draft. D'Qwell decided he wanted to get his degree and play one more year. He is definitely the leader of our football team, especially on defense.

On quarterback Sam Hollenbach's Injury: I would say he is probably questionable. He won't practice today and he won't practice tomorrow. We will decide after that.

On backup Joel Statham doing well last year against FSU: He is prepared. He is successful, more than any other Maryland quarterback against FSU. Hopefully, he will be able to play well again.

On win last year against FSU: I think we were very fortunate in the game. I think they missed two or three field goals that were big. I think we played our best game of the year and they didn't play very well. I'm happy to have the win. Last year was last year and I think the problem with last year was that win was the highlight of our season. We are still in the race this year and that is what I am concentrating on not last year's game.
