Matt Lynch pitched the first complete game of the year for the Seminoles and the first since Trent Peterson did it during the 2001 ACC Tournament as FSU beat the North Carolina State Wolfpack 9-3 in Friday's series-opener. Lynch went 9.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out four batters.

The Noles jumped all over Wolfpack starter Ryan Combs in the bottom of the first inning. After Stephen Drew flew out, Tony McQuade got things started with his sixteenth double of the season. Ryan Barthelemy then singled and Blair McCaleb reached on a fielding error by Combs that allowed McQuade to score the first run of the game. After Nick Rogers walked, Jerrod Brown's singled to left to score Barthelemy. Mike Futrell grounded out to score McCaleb, and Brown scored on a ground-out by Mike Futrell to put FSU up 4-0.

After a scoreless second and third innings, Drew doubled down the rightfield line before McQuade and Barthelemy both walked to load the bases. McCaleb's eleventh double of the year then cleared the bases and gave FSU a 7-0 lead.

NCSU finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when Joe Gaetti's single to centerfield scored Adam Hargrave and Sammy Esposito that cut FSU's lead to 7-2.

The Seminoles picked up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth when Barthelemy reached second on a fielding error when the Pack pitcher threw away a bunt. McCaleb then drew a walk and Brown singled to load the bases with no outs. Richie Smith then drew a walk to score Barthelemy, and Tony Richie hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Scott Toole who was running for McCaleb.

NC State scored one last run in the top of the ninth when Matt Butler doubled and scored on Hargrave's single to rightfield.

FSU improved to 39-12 and 7-6 in the ACC while NCSU fell to 26-18 and 4-12 in conference play. The same two teams play again on Saturday with Marc LaMacchia (7-1 2.60) on the mound for Florida State against Daniel Caldwell (6-5 5.71) for the Wolfpack.
