Al Thornton scored 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Florida State past Alcorn State 85-67 in its home opener Monday night.

Alexander Johnson (14 points) and Jason Rich (10) also contributed double-digit outputs for the Seminoles (2-0), who turned 20 turnovers by the Braves (0-2) into 27 points. The teams traded baskets in the game's early stages, but Rich's three-pointer from the left wing gave the Seminoles the lead for good at the 6:23 mark in the first half. The shot incited a 17-5 run for FSU.

Clifton Douglass led the Braves - members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference - with 21 points, connecting on 7-of-10 shots from 3-point range.

Juan Wyatt added 12 points and seven rounds for Alcorn. Thornton's 31 points were a career high for the junior forward and marked the first time an FSU player has scored more than 30 points since Jan. 18.

The Seminoles have won five straight home openers and have won 54 home openers in the 59-year history of the program. FSU faces Florida Friday night in Gainesville.
