A bases-loaded walk to Nick Rogers with two-outs in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Seminoles a 6-5 win and a sweep over the Maryland Terrapins on Senior Day at Dick Howser Stadium. Appropriately, seniors Rogers and Ryan Barthelemy accounted for four of the six RBI in the game. The other two came from the bat of Tony Richie in the seventh inning on a double down the left-field line.

After two scoreless innings, Maryland took a 2-0 lead in the third when Matt Swope hit a two-run double to left that scored Daryl Whitmer and Justin Maxwell.

With one out in the fifth inning, Jerrod Brown finally broke up Sean Kane's perfect game with a single to right. Brown was left stranded, but the ice had been broken. Two innings later, the Noles tied the game up when Tony McQuade walked and Barthelemy singled before scoring on Richie's double.

In the eighth, Stephen Drew reached on a bunt single and McQuade was hit by a pitch before Barthelemy nailed a triple to left-center that score both runners. Rogers then singled in Barthelemy to give the Seminoles a 5-2 lead.

Blair Varnes, stellar until the top of the ninth, finally seemed to tire - allowing two runners on base before getting pulled. On the day, Varnes allowed only four hits and four runs while walking one and striking out six batters in 8.0+ innings of work. Daniel Davidson relieved him and gave up a double to Jason Maxey that scored one run before getting the first out of the inning on a groundball that scored another run. Kevin Lynch came in to face the next batter, and gave up a single to Kevin George that tied the game up. Daniel Hodges was then called on to pitch and got the final two outs of the inning with a pop-up and grounder to short.

In the bottom of the ninth, Smith reached on a fielding error by Terp shortstop John McCurdy, Drew singled to left, and Ryan Barthelemy was intentionally walked to load the bases. Rogers then walked on four straight pitches by Brad Lyons to end the game and secured the three-game sweep.

The Seminoles have now won fourteen games in a row, and have swept five straight three-game series. With the victory, the Noles improved to 48-12 and 15-6 in the ACC while Maryland fell to 33-22 and 6-18 in conference play. After a week off, FSU travels to Clemson to finish out the regular season.
