Practice Update and Q & A with Coach Bowden

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden spoke with the media following his squad's 14-period practice in shells Saturday. The following is a transcript of that conversation.

On practice:

"It went good. This group has practiced good all year ? that has never been a problem. Their enthusiasm, I think, has been real good."

On how much they can get accomplished with exams and the holiday break:

"This year we are having to piece it together more than in the past because (the university) moved finals back. Normally we would start next week and just go right on down to the bowl. So we are having to practice today and try to get in another and go Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before Christmas instead of meeting the day after Christmas on the 28 th. Penn State, they must have already had their final exams or they must have had them this week because they are going down on the 20th. We are both getting the same amount of practices but ours are broken up a little bit more. At least we get the final week down there. It gets you back in the swing of things."

On seeing Joe Paterno at a Thursday press conference in south Florida:

"We both went down there and had a press conference and signed some autographs and stuff like that. He had to go to Orlando to accept the coach of the year thing so I stayed down there for a couple of get-togethers with fans."

On Kamerion Wimbley's status:

"I saw him when I called them up but I don't know how much work he got. It might be that Randy (Oravetz) wants to get him another week of rest to be sure. I am not sure exactly what that is. I sure hope (that he's available). He just means so much to our football team. I know that he wants to get out there. He would have played last week but I am afraid that it wouldn't have been wise."

On the group of seniors:

"They have done a good job of providing leadership. I thought last game was dadgum good indicator (of that). If there was ever a chance for a team to fold it could have been last week. Instead, they rose to the occasion and that easily reflects back to leadership."

Practice notes:

-Redshirt junior quarterback Wyatt Sexton worked with the team today and was in shells.

-Quarterback commitment Christian Ponder and recruit Marcus Ball were both at practice. Ponder was with quarterbacks coach Daryl Dickey while Ball was with strength and conditioning coach Jon Jost.
