Florida State defeated the Clemson Tigers for the eighth straight time with a 9-4 victory in the second round of the ACC Tournament from St. Petersburg, Florida on Thursday. The Seminoles fell behind 4-0 after the second inning but came back to take the lead in the fifth inning before collecting some insurance runs in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings.

Matt Lynch pitched another complete game, giving up only one earned run in 9.0 innings while striking out nine batters without any walks.

The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the first when errors on Richie Smith and Jerrod Brown contributed to four runs, only one of them earned.

As has been the case lately, the Seminoles shrugged off the deficit and battled back with five runs in the fifth. Brown led things off with an infield single and moved to second on a single to right by Tony Richie. Mike Futrell singled to left to score Brown before Smith drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Bryan Zech plated Richie before a Stephen Drew double to right-center brought home Futrell. Tony McQuade's sacrifice fly scored Smith and Drew came home on a single by Ryan Barthelemy that put FSU up 5-4.

In the sixth, the Noles made 6-4 when Richie doubled to right and scored on a single by Futrell.

Drew led off the seventh inning with an infield single, moved to second on a ground out, and scored on a Barthelemy single up the middle.

Florida State put an exclamation point on the victory in the ninth inning when McQuade walked and scored on a homerun to right-center by Barthelemy

With the win, Florida State improved to 53-12 on the season and will advance to play the winner of tonight's North Carolina/Wake Forest game at 7:30 Friday night. Clemson fell to 46-13 and will play the North Carolina State at 12:00 Friday afternoon in an elimination game.
