Another FSU-Miami Battle

On signing days the Seminoles were able to ink three Miami Gulliver Prep players in safety Anthony Leon, cornerback Patrick Robinson and offensive lineman Evan Bellamy. This year it looks like the Noles will be in the thick of things for another Gulliver Prep standout.

Jarvis Givens, a 6-foot-2 and 290 pound defensive tackle, will be one of the heaviest recruited players in the state. Right now it looks to be a Miami and Florida State battle.

"Florida State and Miami are my top two teams growing up," Givens said. "I was born and raised in Miami so that's why I like the Hurricanes. There's something that I like about State."

Last summer the 2nd team All-Dade player camped at Florida State and he had a positive experience.

"I really like the way Coach Haggins coaches," he said. "If I come to Florida State, he's the type of person who would look out for me. I will camp at Florida State again this summer."

Givens will also camp at Florida, Miami and Rutgers.

Others schools under consideration are Clemson and Auburn.

Will his three teammates in Tallahassee be a factor in his final decision?

"They will be a big-factor but I have to do what's best for me," he said. "Sometimes they talk to me about going to Florida State."

Givens is an excellent student who has a 3.1 grade point average.
