Noles in the Mix for LA DE

One heaviest recruited defensive player in the country resides in West Monroe (LA). There have been rumors that the 6-foot-5 and 255 pound standout has committed to USC. We've also heard that LSU has pulled ahead for his services. What's the real deal?

According to defensive end Luther Davis, he has opened up his recruitment to several schools.

"I've opened things up and I'm not leaning anywhere," Luther Davis said. "This summer I'm going camp at LSU, Notre Dame, Miami and Florida State."

Davis is getting a lot of pressure to stay in state which is typical for players of his skill level.

"My coach helped me get a job with a guy that tells all the reasons why I should go to LSU," he said. "I'm going to do what's best for me."

A lot of schools are recruiting him hard but it's a West Coast team that's on him the hardest.

"USC is recruiting me the hardest," he said. "Coach Ken Norton and I talk quite often. Coach Carroll told me that he doesn't want me coming out for their camp because he knows I'm a good player and it's not necessary."

The Louisiana standout is intrigued with one school from Florida and he's bonded with a coach from another school in that state.

"I'm very intrigued with Miami," he said. "I've never been there before. Devin Hester called me the day after the draft which I thought was cool. Of all the coaches I would say Coach McHale is my favorite. He tells it like it is and he's so down to earth. Ahmad (Paige) loves him."

Davis and his good friends Ahmad Paige and Joe McKnight would still like to play together in college.

"I would say that there's an 80% chance that we all play college ball together," Davis said. "There's about a 90 % chance that Ahmad and I will play together in college."

What about the Noles chances?

"Ahmad really likes FSU and I could see myself sharing an eight hour car ride with him there," he said. "Joe McKnight likes LSU a lot but they have a lot young running backs. That's why he's looking at schools like Florida State. I feel like he'll be the next Reggie Bush."

What's the timetable for an announcement?

"I was thinking about in August but if I make the Army All-American Bowl, I would like to make it there," he said.
