Play halted at Athens Regional with FSU Ahead

Florida State waited in anticipation to begin the 2006 NCAA Tournament. After rain and lightning stopped the game after seven innings Friday at the Athens Regional, the Seminoles will have to wait one more day to finish the game. The game was postponed for the third time with FSU ahead 18-0 over Jacksonville. The teams will resume play Saturday at 9 A.M.

Michael Hyde pitched five shutout innings and the Florida State offense erupted for 18 unanswered runs off six Dolphins pitchers heading into the eighth. Hyde struck out five and allowed just two singles and a walk in extending his scoreless innings streak to 12.

Travis Anderson, Ryan Strauss, and Tony Thomas lead the team with eight hits, six runs, and 13 of the 18 Seminole RBI. Thomas, Josh Spivey, and Shane Robinson each hit a home run.

If Florida State holds on for the victory, they will play again Saturday at 7 P.M. against either Georgia or Sacred Heart.
