Sure, several defensive tackles and likely starting tight end Charlie Graham have missed some time, but the fact remains that each of those players are expected to make quick recoveries.
Thursday, it was apparent that many of those players are making the necessary progress and on the verge of joining their teammates very soon.
Sophomore defensive tackle Letroy Guoin, who has been missing since preseason practices began earlier this month, practiced with the defense on Thursday. His return couldn't have come at a better time as the defensive tackle depth chart has been plagued by minor injuries this fall.
"I will be back full speed Monday. It feels good to be back out there with these guys," Guion said. "I had to come back. Right now I am just trying to work hard and get back to where I was (before the injury)."
True freshman Justin Mincey had been moved from defensive end to the tackle position to help add some much needed depth. Tackles Kendrick Stewart, Aaron Jones and Emmanuel Dunbar are still being held out but are expected to make their returns within the next week.
"(The defensive tackle depth chart) has been a little slim lately but if a couple of us get back healthy we will be ready to start," Guion said.
Like Guion, redshirt freshman cornerback Jamie Robinson has been missing since the start of practices also. The South Carolina native had an impressive spring practice session and was figured to compete for serious playing time this fall.
Covering Chris Davis in one-on-one drills in the summer, however, Robinson sprained his ankle. The injury, which was thought to not be that bad at the time, turned out to be pretty serious and as a result has required him to miss significant practice time.
Thursday, Robinson was out of his walking boot and feeling much better.
"It's doing alright right now. I went back to the doctor this morning and got (the boot) taken off," Robinson said. "Right now I am just running on it trying to get it stronger to try and come back to practice. Right now I will probably get to play some in the Miami game. That's what I am looking forward to.
"It could change depending on how much progress I make."
In other injury news, true freshman quarterback Christian Ponder had been at practice Tuesday and Wednesday but did not work with the team. He was back in action on Thursday and told RenegadeReport.com that he had been dealing with a case of pink eye.
Middle linebacker Anthony Kelly was wearing a sling Thursday after separating his shoulder last week. The Daytona beach native is set to have surgery within the next week or so and will likely miss the entire season.
