Player Q&A: Matt Hardrick

In last Saturday's scrimmage, FSU freshman guard Matt Hardrick was carted off the field with an ankle injury. Thursday, he spoke with about his status for the season opener in Miami. How is the ankle feeling?

Matt Hardrick: "It's feeling better. I can walk on it a lot better than I was before. I got the x-ray back Monday that said it wasn't fractured or broken or anything like that. It's just a high ankle sprain."

RR: So you don't expect to be playing against Miami?

MH: "I am not going to play in that game. It's looking more like the next game or the game after that (that I will play)."

RR: How has it been for you adjusting to the college game?

MH: "The speed of the game is no different than what I am used to at Hargrave. But it's basically the mentality going up to the line with two or three different plays and knowing once that play is called what to do and what technique to use. Stuff like that. It is pretty hard mentality-wise. That's the biggest thing."

RR: You have been working at left guard this fall. Are you comfortable on that side?

MH: "Yeah I am. I played my senior year at left guard and at Hargrave they had me at right and left guard."

RR: Are you feeling comfortable with the zone blocking and the schemes being implanted?

MH: "Yeah. It just comes down to getting as many reps as possible. The more you do it the better you are."

RR: You've been here almost two months now, has it hit you yet that you are Seminole football player?

MH: "When I walk on the field I look at the stadium and just realize how big it is. I am used to playing at Hargrave and in high school. This is Doak Campbell Stadium. I've got to do my thing."
