Florida State University Foundation President Charles J. Rasberry announced Friday that Billy Sexton, an assistant football coach at Florida State for 30 years, will join the FSU Foundation in January as a development associate.
"I'm deeply appreciative for the opportunities that Coach Bowden has afforded me over the last 30 years, and I am looking forward to continuing my service to FSU," Sexton said. "During my coaching career, I learned the value of fostering relationships and this new position provides me the chance to continue that work."
As a development associate, Sexton's compensation will not exceed his current coaching salary of $140, 971.
"Billy has played an integral role at FSU for many years," Rasberry said. "We feel his extensive experience and our needs will be a good match."
Head Coach Bobby Bowden said the same qualities that made Sexton successful on the football field will make him successful at the FSU Foundation.
"I've always believed a great deal of the credit for the success we've had can be attributed to the assistant coaching staff," Bowden said. "When you look at the record book, Billy has coached something like eight of the top 10 rushers in FSU history. He has been an outstanding coach and an exceptional recruiter since the day he walked in the door and he loves this university. I can't thank him enough for all he has done for FSU football."
The Florida State University Foundation, Inc. enhances the academic vision and priorities of FSU through its organized fund-raising activities and funds management. The Foundation, a non-profit corporation established in 1960, is governed by an elected Board of Trustees, whose members serve as advocates for the university, its colleges, schools and programs.
