Alcoa High School (Tenn.) defensive end Rae Sykes will be visiting one of the final two schools at the top of his list this weekend.
And it's not a trip to see the hometown Volunteers.
The standout pass rusher will be making the trek from Tennessee to see the Florida State campus for the first time.
"I am real excited to get down there this Friday," said Sykes, who is 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds. "Since I have never been there, I have had to go off what Brandon tells me about it. It's a good school and I just want to see what it's like."
Sykes, of course, is talking about his former high school teammate and current FSU starting tight end Brandon Warren, who has had nothing but good things to say about his time in Tallahassee so far.
"He just tells me how beautiful it is there," Sykes said. "He said the people there are just real laid back and that everyone is like family. It sounds real nice."
Sykes, a four-star prospect and No. 29-ranked defensive end in the country lists Tennessee and Florida State as his final two.
What does he like about both programs?
Tennessee: "It's close to home so I have been there a lot. They have a winning program and a really nice weight facility. The coaching staff is really good."
Florida State: "It's also a winning program but they need some help after not doing so good last season. They said that one of the defensive ends may move inside to defensive tackle so I could have a chance to play right away, which is good."
Sykes said that he will probably wait until National Signing Day to make his choice between the Seminoles and Volunteers.
Despite teams game-planning against him this past season, Sykes still managed to record roughly 80 tackles en route to earning Tennessee Sports Writer's Association 2A All-State honors.
